Dental procedures have evolved from being preventive and corrective treatments to improving and beautifying your teeth. One such procedure offered by the Dentzz dental clinic in Dubai, is the application of dental veneers.
Veneers, also known as porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates, can be used to mask discoloration of your teeth, or the stains left after a root canal treatment. It can also close small gaps between teeth for which braces aren’t suitable. Your chipped or broken teeth can look whole again with the use of veneers. They can help you change the colour, size, shape and length of your teeth.
Veneers are thin, shell like structures that are custom made to match the colour of your teeth. They are attached to the front part of your teeth with a special adhesive, and last for a long time. Ideally, attaching veneers to your teeth require two to three visits depending on the type of dental veneers chosen for your treatment. Upon your consultation at Dentzz Dubai, our dentists can determine whether one tooth or a lot of teeth need to undergo veneer treatment.
Types of Dental Veneer
There are two types of dental veneers in Dubai that you can get – porcelain veneers and composite veneers.
Composite Veneer Procedure
Your teeth (or tooth) will be buffed to make room for the veneers. A mild chemical will make it rough, and helps the composite resin stick to your enamel. After the tooth is prepared, composite veneers will be sculpted and put on your tooth in layers and each layer will be hardened with a high intensity light. The composite that best matches your natural tooth colour will be used so that the veneers blend with your teeth.
Porcelain Veneer Procedure
Porcelain veneers are custom made for your teeth. On your first visit, the tooth will be prepared for getting a veneer, which will require a small amount of enamel to be removed for reshaping of the tooth. This procedure may involve the use of anaesthesia. Once the teeth is shaped, the dentist will take a mould of your teeth and send it to the laboratory for fabrication of your porcelain veneers. Since this process requires two visits for installation, temporary veneers may be used to replace the part of your tooth which was removed. These temporary veneers are quite fragile, and need extra care till your porcelain veneers are ready. Once they are ready, your tooth is made rough, and a cement is applied on the tooth and the veneers are carefully placed over them one by one and hardened in place.
What is the difference between composite and porcelain veneers?
Composite veneers are useful if you want to fix crooked teeth. They are less expensive than porcelain veneers which are used for a more transformative effect. The procedure time for composite veneers is two visits – one for consultation and one for installation. Porcelain veneer procedure takes about three visits.
After care instructions for veneers
Once you have veneer teeth, you need to brush and floss normally as you would with your natural teeth. Teeth under veneer can still form a cavity or decay, so it’s important to follow optimum oral care practices. If your tooth or the gums begin to decay, then it’s best to get them treated before you get your veneers fitted.
Precautions for veneers
Limit food or drink that can cause staining or discoloration in order to preserve your veneers and ensure they last as long as possible. Veneer teeth can break if you are not careful while biting into hard or chewy foods. That’s why you need to take extreme care to eat the right kinds of food and avoid eating anything that can cause undue stress to your teeth. It is important to remember that the veneer procedure is irreversible; if part of the veneer chips or breaks, the veneer will need to be redone. In case of extreme damage to your veneers in Dubai, our dentists may recommend alternate treatment options such as crowning and bonding.
